surf report and fish and a little bit about something

Welcome to the weekly surf report
Hi, Jeffrey here,
In our area for the week of Dec 12, 2010 is mostly back ground swell from the Northern Hemi. Small barely rideable at stand out breaks.  I surfed last week and it was ok and really clean. If you have reached this weeks report and are planning to go surf, feel free to contact me at my This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

We know most of you like the water, hope this surf report gives you an idea on local area waters in and around Jaltemba area.  This week might be good for fishing and might be bad…depends on your chance on what is happened offshore with the commercial fisherman and of course!!  Our regular visiting Captains from up north. They have been catching Tuna, Dorado, around the 10mile and 22mi. and 33mi….plus in the boat is always worth 4 around a floating bush, in which most cases always has something under it. Whether or not it will bite, you tell me.

Now I really want to go fishing or surfing its in my blood.

Welcome to the weekly surf/fish report
Latitude 21 surf/fish crew,
Week of Dec. 6, 2010

Surf is mostly back ground swell from the Northern Hemi.  Small, barely rideable waves at stand out breaks.  I surfed last week and it was fun head high and really clean. If you have reached this week's report and are planning to go in the water for surf, fish, feel free to come by and visit me at our restaurant Latitude 21 or my email address.

Fishing is still happening but you have to look around.  Less than a week ago big pods of sailfish still out there.
“Come on in the water is fine”.

We hope this surf/fish report helps with decisions on local area waters in and around Jaltemba area.  Although we will be mainly reporting on water conditions, wave heights and fishing, I will also throw in some commentary on what’s eating at me besides bugs. (Happenings in our area).

Think for a moment, 68 degrees in the morning, slight offshore wind carrying the fresh scent of the fallen dew from the mountains.  The beach, empty and clean, maybe just a hint of mist inviting you for your morning walk or jog. All yours, except maybe the mother daughter walking at a fast clip just up ahead.  Maybe, occasional roosters crow.  Just perfect, the morning sun warms your face as the waves lightly crash on to the sand bar a stone's throw away.   Now, it’s just you and the shoreline, start your morning adventure.

Sounds like a Nike shoe commercial doesn’t it?

Those of you who are reading this from a far way land.  We are really sorry so many choose to opt out this season of coming to Mexico because of all the violence in the cities.  Everyone I have talked to who drove had a great time and just used common sense. It’s not too late to fly but I hear the flights are getting harder and harder to find. That’s good. See you soon and remember stay real, real, warm.

Moderate surf conditions

Fish and Surf Report - Dec 1

Today and tomorrow there surf in the bay; I can see it from my house overlooking the area. Yesterday, I was working on a 33foot fishing boat in Chacala and I watched it come up in the afternoon. I was not sure but definitely it is up, whether it will be here tomorrow remains to be seen.

Other stand out breaks to check:
San Pancho, Sayulita, Punta de Mita; las lanchas, pangas, burrows, old mans, if its big enough to wrap in the point at Punta de Mita. The surf will be or should be UP!!!

So, get those boggies out and get after it. Remember, red flag conditions today and maybe tomorrow!!! High tide this morning going out, with rips through out the beach hotel areas.

¿Do you know how to get out of a rip current if caught by one while swimming or boogie or surfing? Answer: paddle parallel to the beach not toward the beach! Good rule of thumb is if you remember anything………try and stay calm and relax enjoy your trip out to sea..the rip will end just past the breakers. Then float around and take your time and float and swim back to the beach.  Don’t get in a hurry, no hurry. If you cant swim good do not go out past your waist

Surf in front of latitude 21 afternoon at the point maybe long lines and 3 ft waves….very fun and beginner wave as well as you can pretty much stand up out there forever. No rip

The fishing at zero base line about 5 to 10 miles out has been holding a trash line and sailfish and dorado. I took a group from Chacala out last week and we caught 2 dorado and a catch and release, nice sailfish. Surfing was pretty good last week with a small north pushing down. The north has arrived.  We have yet to see a monster swell come our way this season.

Restaurant Latitude 21 is slowly coming to life with music. We have some new paintings on the walls wider spaces and clear views.  For us, we hope for what we lack in music venue (not) or will not, we make up in tasty food and great service, see you soon

Latitude 21 Fish and Surf Report

The fishing at zero base line about 5 to 10 miles out has been holding a trash line and lots of sailfish. I took a group from Chacala out and we caught 2 dorado and a catch and release nice sailfish. All in all, a pleasant day on the water for the enjoyment of the whole family.  No wind to speak of and clear water although, there were a few patches of what looked like a red tide. This condition we have seen in the past and is not welcomed to our waters but something’s serve a purpose even if we do not understand it.  Basically, this seems to be a plankton flourish of sorts in patches. This threat, wide enough can spread and deplete the oxygen level and cause havoc on the rock fish and pelagic species. Thankfully, it has to be really big.  This is not a really threat to humans but sometimes when it makes its nasty self apparent on the shores it can cause irritation to the eyes and some respirator conditions. Remember, not a rumor, its just in patches offshore right now. Let’s hope it stays in small patches

Surfing was pretty good last week with a small north pushing down. We have yet to see a monster swell come our way this season. Restaurant Latitude 21 is slowly coming to life with music. We have some new paintings on the walls wider spaces and clear views.  This is going to be an interesting season with a number of friends with new restaurants and old restaurants changing menu and cooks/chefs. For us, we hope for what we lack in music venue (not) or will not, we make up in tasty food and great service, see you soon

surf and fish report
November 19

The fishing has been spotty, although a lot of sails and marlin have been brought in this past week.
Myself and my crew went out to the banks, about 45 miles SW of here.
The weather offshore was windy and with a north swell moving about 2 feet.
When we arrived out there along with 6 other yatchs fishing. It took no longer than 20 minutes and we were hooked up to blue marlin that was hell bent on going to Costa Rica. Finally after about an hour we pulled up to the boat and I have to say she
was a eye full. As wide as the boat and a girth barely put your arms around. We guessed the weight at about 300 plus lbs.
So, there are fish, plus we saw a number of pods of sailfish near shore around Sayulita about 3 miles out. We also found a floating tree with dorado all around it. Alas, they were not hungry.

Surf is pretty small little north...may later this week
