A Day in the Life of Sally the Black Labrador who owns Carol Wallace of La Peñita

Print PDF

Well, that's it.  I'm in the car and I'm not getting out!

They've been rushing around for the past hour and I've been paying close attention, especially to the cooler packing.  Chicken (yum - I'll have some of that and the salad too).  Beer, wine (not so yum).  Chairs, table - what do they want a table for?  Never heard of bowls?  I saw my bowls, water and food go in, that's why I know it's safe to stay in the car.

House doors locked and they're finally in the car.  House doors opened, they forgot the camera.  Finally, we're bumping down the hill.  Oh no, we're bumping back up again - they forgot their towels.

Could we please just get to whatever adventure you've planned for me to-day?

I don't believe it.  We're stopping for gas and ice.  Oh well, that's alright.  All the windows are open so when the nice man pumps the gas, I can say hello to him.  What's that?  No I do not kill people, I only kiss them them to death.  He must not be well - he's very pale and muttering something about large black dogs.  I'm a pedigree I'll have you know.  That told him.  Now can we please please get going?

At last, we're turning off the highway.  I know where we're going, I know where we're going.  The river with the hot pools!

I love this long twisty road.  Lots of cows and horses to bark my hellos to.   I especially love the men on horseback.  It's amazing how far the horses can jump when I say hola!

Oh good, I see my friends in the car ahead.  I'm giving them a good barking at but they're not waving back.  I know, I'll do my loudest yelping thing.  Nope, no good either and I've been told to lie down.  Do the humans I own think I can just lie down and be quiet?  Silly people.

Great, we're here.  Open the door, open the door!!  I see my best friends sitting in the pool.  Woofs and kisses everyone.  Sorry I knocked your beer in the warm water.  Carol will get you another one.  What do you mean, I'm knocking rocks out of the dam.  We're in a river for goodness sake.  There's lots of water.

Just take a land break here.  Oh I do love a good shake.  Well why did one of you leave your best camera on a low rock, not to mention your bags, towels and dry clothes?  You knew I was coming.  I can see you all need a lot more training.

Marvelous, lunch is being served.  There's one of my favourites - potato salad.  Now why did Carol say I can't have any when I was offered?  Surely she knows by now that labradors are always hungry and will eat anything.  Well I never.  How rude!  They're all sitting in the pool stuffing their faces.  What about me?  I'll just sit on shore with my bowl in my mouth and bat my gorgeous eyelashes.  Knew that would work.

They've left half a kilo of tortillas on the table.  Guess they don't want them.  They're really really good. Well, how was I to know you hadn't finished?  You're such slow eaters!!

Now for the best part of my day.  Collecting rocks from the bottom of the pool  I just love sticking my head under and coming up with a big one.  The fun part is to stay under for as long as possible and let bubbles come up.  Freaks Carol out.  She thinks I'm drowning.

Oh joy!  Terry's going jungle walking to take photographs of flowers and plants.  He always wants me with him on his expeditions and I love to be helpful.  I have very large paws and can point out the best plants to him.  All he has to do is lift my foot and take the picture.  He does mumble a lot - something about crushing great labrador.  I'll take that as a compliment.

The last time I was here, David, the other person I own, took me a very long way up the river and found a cow skull.  It smelled wonderful and was full of all sorts of good eating things.

Back at the pool and they're all packing up to leave.  Oh good, they don't want these cookies either.

Another great day in paradise.  Just get my head down back here.  I'm a pedigree girl you know and I need my beauty sleep.
